You don’t need to have a river, stream, pond, harbour, or canal to have water on your layout, especially if your layout portrays a part of the UK where it rains a lot! (most places!).
You can add ‘pools’ of water in and around your railway to suggest recent rainfall. Think about where water would collect when it rains.
You can also represent the inevitable water spillage around your water cranes, or, if you have one, the railway’s washing plant. Of course,
you can’t beat the drama of a waterfall or rapids, or the atmosphere surrounding a rural canal if you have the space to include one on your layout. There are numerous products to help you recreate water in its many forms. One such product is this one from Busch.
This will assist you in creating an area of still water that has ripples on the surface. It comes with a coloured sheet to place underneath to represent the gorund underneath the water. For best results, therefore, you will need to reduce the level of the baseboard under the Water Sheet. The sheet is 425mm x 325mm (16 ¾”12 ¾”).
