More info

If you are looking for N gauge goods wagons, and don’t wishto construct your own, then are plenty of ready-to-run modelsavailable such as this one from the Peco ‘Quality Line’ range. This is a 10ft wheelbase 5-plank open wagon based on the RailwayClearing House (RCH) specification of 1887, and presented here inSR Brown livery. These wagons were used to carry a wide variety ofcargo. Sometimes a tarpaulin was used in an attempt to protect theload from the weather and to hide the load from would-be thieves!Suitable tarpaulins are available from the Roger Smith range, forexample ref. TARP200. If you want to build it yourself to create adifferent variant or save some money, this is also availablein unpainted kit form as KNR-40.

Railway companies all had a stock of their own vehicles for carrying goods and merchandise around their network, and also onto other companies' routes as and when required.

These were integrated into British Railways at Nationalisation; some of them to be once more re liveried under sectorisation as the network was prepared to be returned to private ownership.

All Peco wagons feature free running wheels in pin point axles.

The ELC coupling, whilst compatible with the standard N gauge couplings, keeps a realistic distance between the vehicles and enables the PL-25 electro magnetic decoupler to be used for remote uncoupling.
