Fowler Plough Blue/Red
John Fowler was born in Wiltshire in 1826 into a wealthy Quaker family. He was a talented agricultural engineer and inventor and is credited with being the inventor of the steam-driven plough engine, which ‘mechanised’ the agricultural industry in the 19th century. In 1886, he formed a limited company John Fowler & Co. Ltd and moved to Leeds, where he was at the forefront in the production of steam-powered agricultural engines and operating machinery.
Oxford’s Fowler plough is an example of such piece of operating machinery and appears in bright blue with red wheels and steel coloured furrowing blades. The towhook to attach it to the ploughing engine in front is also a bright steel grey metal colour. The wheel surrounds are earth coloured, as they would be in real life, being put to use in the fields.
