Land Rover FT6 Carmichaek New Zealand Fire Service - 1

This is the second fire appliance from New Zealand to feature in this issue of The Globe and they would look good together on your collecting shelf. Our Carmichael’s Land Rover Redwing FT/6 conversion is part of Oxford’s new tooling programme and this livery is only the second release.

In real life, the vehicle was first introduced in 1961 and provided a light four wheel drive fire appliances with extended cab to accommodate five fire-fighters. This new machine with built-in pump and 140-gallon water tank proved an ideal light all-terrain fire engine for county fire brigades in particular.

Here we see it as used by the New Zealand Fire Service in Temuka, a service town in the rich sheep and dairy farming region on the Canterbury Plains, around 142 Km south of Christchurch, where our fire appliance would have been in its element. Registered AH 9891, the vehicle is painted red with white roof and silver masking to the radiator, bumpers and roof ladders. The model features another authentic touch with orange roof beacon and silver spotlight on the roof above the cab.
