Bedford QLT Post Office Telephones
Built between 1941 and the end of World War II, the QL series of trucks was manufactured by Bedford for use by the British Armed Forces during the conflict, each designed with a specific task in mind.
The QLT was essentially a troop carrier, designed to carry 1 crew member and 11 passengers. From 1941 to 1945, 3300 QLTs were built and like many military vehicles post-war, some were sold off to civilian operators where they fulfilled a useful and often long life.
Our 1:76 scale model of the QLT is in post-war civilian guise, registered HLA 248 and appearing in the familiar dark green GPO livery with white lettering and black trim. According to the cab doors, this vehicle was the property of the Engineer in Chief, GPO, Motor Transport Branch, London.
The canvas back is black, held down with rope fastenings. There would have been ample room in the back for crew and equipment, given the vehicle’s former use and the model is an interesting addition to any GPO fleet across the years.
