More info

Another extrovert American motor hits Oxford's American series roadscene with the Buick Century from the 1950s. Buick started manufacturing the line of upmarket performance car under the Century banner between 1936 and 1942, with its first production automobile capable of reaching a speed of 100 mph, hence the name Century, which was reputedly taken from the British motoring slang 'doing a century' i.e. 100 mph!

The Century marque was resurrected in 1954 matching their signature lightweight, small Buick Special body to its largest V8 engine! The result was a powerful performance car which came either as a 4-door saloon, a 2-door coupe, 2-door convertible or 4-door hardtop station wagon. The Buick Century name survived into the 21st Century with many modifications, upgrades and redesigns along the way. In 1956, the starting price for a Buick Century was $2963.

Our model of the Century 1955 is based on the 2-door coupe. Decorated in a bright turquoise and white two-tone scheme with white roof and turquoise interior, the car is registered in Texas as PZ 3579. The highly detailed whitewall tyres also feature a turquoise trim and there is a wealth of silver/chrome trim to the radiator, bumpers, headlights and wheels, rounded off by the flowing Buick/Century lettering above the rear wheels and on the bonnet.
