78 two-car, non-corridor units build between 1934 and 1936, the 2NOL classification meaning that they had no lavatories. The underframes were new S.R. standard 62ft electric ones as used in the 3SUBS, but the bodies were second hand, coming from ex LSWR 48ft Third and 44ft Firsts built in the 1890's. Since the bodies were not scrapped until 1959 and the underframe went on to serve again under "new" 2EPB unit they gave good value! A noticeable feature of the Motor Brake Thirds was the coupe compartment, but in later days this was absorbed into the guards van. The 2NOLs were used on the south coast serving from Hastings to Eastbourne, Brighton and Portsmouth and the associated electrified branches. They also operated the Waterloo to Windsor and Weybridge service. The kit will produce units 1813-1882, the last eight 1883-1890 did not have the coupe and were fitted with electro-pneumatic brakes and underfloor control gear.
