Tensionlock Uncoupler

Tension lock couplings are amongst the most popular type in use on OO gauge railways. They are provided with all locomotives and rolling stock from the major manufacturers such as Hornby and Bachmann, being very reliable in operation.

If you require hands-free operation on your layout and you are using tension-lock couplings, then you need some of these uncouplers! This device will allow remote uncoupling.

Place one of these at each location where you wish to remotely uncouple your train and connect each one via a ‘push-to-make’ switch to a low voltage supply. (16 to 25 volts AC or DC). A ‘push-to-make’ switch is one where the circuit is only completed whilst the button is depressed; letting go of the button cuts the power again.

Do not connect to a toggle switch becuase prolonged application of power to this device will burn out the electro-magnet and render the device useless!

To use the uncoupler, place the couplings of the vehicles you wish to uncouple, ensureing that they are pushed together to allow the coupling hooks to rise, and press the appropriate switch. The uncoupler will rise and in so doing will push the coupling hooks up.

The vehicles can then be drawn apart and the button released. One screw fixing attaches this to your board and allows fine adjustment.
