HISTORY
The passenger ship of superlatives. With 150,000 GRT, the Queen Mary 2 of the Cunard Line is the largest, longest (345 m), highest (with 72 m it is higher than the Statue of Liberty) and most magnificent passenger ship ever built. She can accommodate up to 2,620 passengers on 14 stylishly luxurious passenger decks, plus an additional 1,253 crew. With her long and elegant hull and powerful propulsion (max. 29 kn), she was specially designed for transatlantic voyages, from Europe (Southampton, England) to North America (New York) in 6 days. The concept for the Queen Mary 2 was developed in May 1998, and after a further two years of development, the order was placed with a French shipyard in November 2000, and the ship was handed over to the Cunard Line on December 22, 2003. The ship only began regular transatlantic service in April 2004 after wintering in the Caribbean. The Queen Mary 2 continues the tradition of great North Atlantic voyages, contributing to the continuation of the era of ocean voyages, which has already been declared over.
