There are a number of products available to the modeller for keeping tracks clean and in tip-top condition. Perhaps the most basic and best known is the track rubber. This works by removing contaminants and dirt from the surface of the rails thus ensuring better connectivity between a locomotive and the track. Track Magic, by Deluxe Materials, works in a similar vein as it aims to clean the track and enhance connectivity.
Track Magic is a liquid-based medium. It works best when used in combination with a track rubber which will remove the loose surface grease and dirt. Track Magic can then be applied to the track via a sponge to attack more persistent and deeply ingrained dirt and contaminants. Track Magic can be applied via a sponge applicator or micro brush, both of which are supplied with the product for ease of use. The chemical formula works by dissolving grease and other contaminants which are then removed with the sponge. Track Magic leaves behind a thin film which not only enhances connectivity but also helps protect the surface of the rails against rust and other contaminants.
It can also be used on points, frogs and other small and delicate parts. It can also be applied to the wheels of locomotives thus helping to ensure clean and efficient pickups. For delicate and small components Track Magic comes with a micro-brush, specifically configured for this kind of application. As Track Magic is a petroleum-based product, excess fluid or spills should be cleaned up as this could cause damage to plastic components.
