Occasionally, there is a requirement to remove waterslide decals from a model. One of the best products for achieving this is Micro Set manufactured by Microscale.
Micro Set is usually applied to help position decals in place and ensure they adhere to uneven and ridged surfaces by softening the decal carrier film, thus ensuring optimum adhesion. It is this same softening process that is the key to removing unwanted decals. Apply small amounts of Micro Set with a brush and leave this for a few minutes to work on the decal carrier film. After a few minutes, the adhesion of the decal carrier film will begin to fracture or allow the decal to be moved with a suitable implement such as a toothpick or hobby knife.
This process may be much more difficult if the decal has been 'locked in' by a coat of varnish. In this particular instance, it may be necessary to cut the decal, perhaps along a recessed panel line which will allow the Micro Set to get access to the decal and start the softening process. It might not be possible to remove the unwanted decal in one go so repeating the above process in smaller steps may be necessary.
