More info

Scale model of H.M.S Sikht 1:600.

HMS Sikht was a British WWII destroyer of the Tribal type, in service with the Royal Navy from 1938 to 1942, bearing the tactical marks L82, F82, G82. During the war she served in the Norwegian campaign, in the Atlantic and in the Mediterranean, where she was sunk on 14 September 1942.

For the course of service HMS ‘Sikh’ received 8 battle honours (battle honours): Norway 1940, the Atlantic 1940-1941, the operation against the battleship Bismarck 1941, the battle near Cape Bon 1941, Libya 1941, the Maltese convoys 1941-1942, the battle of Sirte 1942, the Mediterranean 1942.

In October 1941 ‘Sikh’ was directed to be part of Team H in Gibraltar. From 16 to 27 October it again took part in covering the delivery of aircraft to Malta by HMS ‘Ark Royal’ (Operation Callboy), and from 10 November in the analogous Operation Perpetual (after torpedoing the aircraft carrier ‘Ark Royal’, it escorted the battleship HMS ‘Malaya’ to Gibraltar on 13 November, after which it participated in unsuccessful attempts to rescue the aircraft carrier on 14 November).

In December it was decided to transfer the ‘Sikh’ to the Mediterranean Fleet. En route, on the night of 12 December 1941, together with the destroyers ‘Isaac Sweers’, ‘Maori’ and ‘Legion’, there was a clash with Italian cruisers near Cape Bon, in which ‘Sikh’ took part in the sinking of the cruisers ‘Alberico da Barbiano’ and ‘Alberto di Giussano’ with torpedoes. Between 14 and 17 December she was part of Team K based in Malta and took part in the First Battle of Sirte, after which she redeployed with the flotilla to Alexandria. She then took part in fleet force operations in the eastern Mediterranean, mainly involving the resupply of Malta, while fighting against the air (MF-2, MF-3 in January 1942). In the course of the MF-2 operation, she was redeployed to Malta on 7 January, as part of Team K (Force K).
