Special Hobby Supermarine Seafire Mk.II 'Torch and Avalanche' in 1:48 Scale. The Supermarine Seafire was a hastily adapted carrier-based version of the successful land-based Supermarine Spitfire. Initial versions were fitted with an arrestor hook along them to land on carriers but did not possess wing folding mechanisms. This limited the amount of aircraft that could be carried in the limited confines of the hangar of an Aircraft Carrier. The Seafire Mk.II was an adaption of the Spitfire Vc and used the Rolls Royce Merlin 32 engine which was specifically adapted for naval use. The Mk.II Seafire was the first version to reach the Royal Navy in significant numbers and entered service in mid-1942 and was present onboard Royal Navy Aircraft Carriers for Operation Torch in November 1942 and Operation Avalanche in September 1943. Although a successful fighter in its own right the Seafire Mk.II suffered from poor range and inherited a delicate, narrow-track undercarriage that was not well suited to landing on an Aircraft Carrier.
