Jiro Horikoshi's superb design was elegant and deadly in the hands of a skilled pilot. Widely accepted as being the most capable carrier-based fighter at the start of WWII, the Mitsubishi A6M Zero series was blessed with very long-range and excellent manoeuvrability. Although it dominated the early clashes in the Pacific theatre the iconic 'Zero' was matched and eventually outclassed by more capable Allied adversaries. Although overwhelmed in the latter stages of WWII the legendary 'Zero' has earned its place in history as a superb carrier-borne fighter.
